I can’t believe this has to be said, but wear a face mask, you pricks! How can something as blindingly obvious as wearing a mask during a global pandemic be a controversial topic all of a sudden?

We need regenerative systems, not sustainable ones, to move forward
Once again, the economy is in the gutter. This time, it is because of a global pandemic. Once again, calls for change abound. What change, though? Personally, I think what we need is a serious re-think about how we implement systems in general, moving away from exploitative or even sustainable design, towards regenerative design.
What the future brings
Does anyone else share this feeling that humankind is closing in on a dramatic climax? On the one hand, the climate catastrophe, rising tensions between governments and within countries around the world and, of course Covid-19, seem to indicate a world that is stumbling closer to the abyss.
Everybody dies!
Yes, you knew that already. But it helps to put things into perspective doesn’t it? And I don’t even necessarily mean that in a bad way. Sure, it can be depressing: Everything and everyone, loved or not, will eventually disappear and leave nothing behind.
Essential my ass
I can’t help but get pissed every time people go on about the “heroism of essential workers” these days. What, after years and years of having no problem at all with nurses, farmers, grocery store workers, truck drivers and others being underpaid as hell, suddenly they’re “heroes” who valiantly choose to sacrifice themselves for theContinue reading “Essential my ass”
A haircut in times of crisis
In stark contrast to the rest of me, my hair seems to have taken advantage of these weeks in enhanced community quarantine to put a lot of work into growing as much as possible. Now, having hair that grows is great and all (as my father tends to remind me), but skyrocketing temperatures of summerContinue reading “A haircut in times of crisis”
Get off the disaster porn
“Hi everyone, my name is Markus and I am an addict.” “Hello Markus”, reply the voices in my head. I may have a problem. When I started travelling three years ago, one of the first things I did was to stop keeping up with the news. I got rid of all my news apps, deletedContinue reading “Get off the disaster porn”
The art of not wasting time
Do you know how many hours of videogames I played last week? Because I completely lost count. Every time I start gaming, I think that it’s not a big deal. We are living through an epidemic, there is nothing else to do anyway, so why the hell not? Well, because all of these statements areContinue reading “The art of not wasting time”
Thank you, Coronavirus
Seeing people get infected with the new coronavirus or COVID-19 all over the world is not the best premise for looking at the big picture. But I still couldn’t help noticing a couple of things that seem to be happening in parallel to the mayhem. First, nature is recovering. Pollution is dropping everywhere because economicContinue reading “Thank you, Coronavirus”
What to do during the pandemic
Not gonna lie, I’ve been pretty strapped for ideas lately. As an introvert, I always thought that being stuck at home for days on end is going to be easy for me – after all, I pretty much trained for it my entire life. But now that it is happening, I’m mainly fighting the onsetContinue reading “What to do during the pandemic”
