We all know this popular turn of phrase. It seems to come so naturally. Is there anything freer than a bird? How amazing must it be not to have these challenges, obligations, emotions? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could just spread our wings and fly away, our earthly tethers removed?
It gets pointed out a lot that we humans are the only beings on the planet who don’t live in tune with nature. Instead, we exploit, destroy, and otherwise undermine nature’s systems for our own short-term gain.
Looking back, there is one assertion that perfectly encapsulates every relationship I’ve had: We accept the love we think we deserve.
