Thank you for adopting 1,797 pawikan eggs, dear blog friends

We’ve been doing this together for three years now and your support continue to move us every time. To everyone who adopted pawikan nests from our previous post, a big thank you in behalf of the sea turtles and our small community of volunteers! You may not be physically present with us but you are part of this family in every way.

There are over 200 nests now and more are sure to come as the breeding season starts to peak. It is impossible to save these eggs without your support. Even if the hatchery is a registered NGO and have ties with the government, there is zero funding.

Training and seminars are sometimes provided but nothing when it comes to finances. From the start of this grassroots project, everything depends on individual donations. You literally power us!

So really, a heartfelt thank you to everyone who used our donation link, especially to our blog friends Juliette, Leenda, Ashley, Brad, Michele, Michelle, and Lisa for supporting the turtles through the years. You’ve been with us since Day 1 and we are still here because of you. We hope your Season 3 Turtle Mail brought you a little joy!

Thank you, not only for your donations, but for inspiring others to take action and spreading the word, too. Here is the pawikan post of Leenda and Ju-lyn! We cannot thank you enough for the support and inspiration you pour over us.

People like you will save us from the climate crisis. Real change happens when we choose to act on our values, not talk about them, and you have done so for years.

It is our hope that these sea turtles that you adopted can contribute to the health of the ocean, particularly the reefs. For sure, every single one counts.

We will continue to update you as the season progresses and your nests finally hatch. Many thanks for being by our side. Let us continue to be like the sea turtles inside the nests and lift each other up.

Name a better use of $10 than sending a sea turtle back to the ocean and this little fellow living for up to 100 years! That is just, wow.

Together, we can save more sea turtles.

Thank you for supporting the work of Pag-asa Pawikan Protection and Conservation Center. Now with Green Sea, Olive and Hawksbill Turtle babies!

  4. As always, your posts are full of hope not just for the turtles but for all of us on the planet. Life in the UK at the moment is not so good and in Ukraine, there is an unnecessary war but in Ph, you show us that when folks pull together much can be achieved. Personally, you have taken me on a journey trying to understand why I love turtles; I haven’t found the answer yet, but the journey is a joyful one and I’m still learning. 🐒🐒🐒

    1. Have you read the book Humankind by Rutger Bregman? It is so refreshing, plus it asks the important questions relevant for our times. Thank you for supporting the sea turtles and beliving in our community. The thought of Ashley turtles swimming in the ocean right now makes me smile, especially how they will continue to be there even when we are no longer around.

      1. Haha! It’s a strange thing but I’m not the best of swimmers and yet I am drawn to the sea! And I’m Pisces! I haven’t read that book so I will now look it up. Thank you 🐒🐒🐒

        1. Maybe that is exactly why – we are drawn to what we lack! Haha. I am not the strongest swimmer as well, which is a great failure since I am from the islands. I am not giving up though. There is time to improve on this. Markus has scuba diving licenses and I want to join him in exploring the world underwater at some point, too. I hope you enjoy the book! I found it truly fascinating.

    1. Thank you for your help! You always remember the sea turtles even before we post about them. Dedication! We appreciate your thoughtfulness and infinite support very much. We hope you can visit the hatchery one day and add the Ph to your travels.

    1. They are stunning. This is what it feels like to hold 100 years on your hands. Hopefully, these hatchlings will still be around years after we are dead. Legacy. The gift that keeps on giving. It is an honor to work for these sea turtles!
