Over the weekend, I managed to put in some work in further greening our backyard. Most of it is already teeming with plants but the wrought iron plant structure attached to the back of the tiny house has yet to receive some love.
It took three tries until I finally settled on a grouping that looked natural, lush, and textured. The color is mainly green and white and I am quite pleased with how it turned out.
Of course, it will become prettier in time as the plants grow more, assuming they enjoy their location. It should not be a problem – morning light floods the backyard and it is shaded for the rest of the day.
The wooden table and bench were built from reclaimed wood. We want another bench to complete it but we are still waiting for some material to magically come out of nowhere, as they usually do.
What do you think of our set up? It has become a favorite breakfast nook. Nothing like communing with nature to start a good day. Maybe one day we can sit with you here, too!

Many thanks, Rebecca. The plants are doing well so far. I have been growing them in the nursery for a few months now and they received the best growing conditions there. They seem to be adopting okay to their new spot in the backyard so I am happy.

Thank you. It is a lovely place to have tea and read or just write. My wish is for many people to enjoy this space when the world opens again. I am a believer in healthy spaces. Our environment greatly affects our energy and so we try to make the tiny house as cozy and calming as possible l. More calm people is good for the world.

Yes, in The Ph, public green spaces are not common. Public parks are often a feature of rich communities. For us, we are lucky since our plants are happy to live with us and take care of me mentally. Do you also have plants?

Yes I have a few. Just today I gifted my mother hibiscus plant for Mother’s Day. We have recently made an unsaid rule in family that we will gift each other plants only.

Thank you, Mrs. Bean. This wrought iron work is a fancy-looking plant hanger. My Father recommended the design and we were lucky to know a person incredibly skilled in welding. It was made in the heat of the pandemic, too, so we were able to give a small job to someone. It remained empty behind the tiny house for so long and I am happy to finally green it up.

You have created a beautiful space for relaxing in! The green and white theme really works, simple too! Do any of the birds come into the garden? Here we talk about “garden” birds such as Robin or Sparrow! Do you have “garden” birds? We also have a small back garden and have a couple of seed feeders hanging opposite the kitchen window. When we’re washing dishes etc at the kitchen sink we delight in seeing the birds feeding. I think their presence has helped us both through the lockdown. Today I watched: Robin, Blackbird, Song thrush, House Sparrow, Coal Tit, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Goldfinch, Dunnock, Wren even a Wood Pigeon landed on the ground to look for crumbs. We have the advantage of a six-foot high mixed hedge across the back opposite the kitchen and that allows the birds some protection. I particularly love to see a bird pop its head out of the hedge and look around, then see another above it doing the same. I’d love to know what they’re saying. Just now there are a lot of young birds that sit on the top of the hedge or the side fence and “shiver” their wiings, “feed me” they’re saying!

Wow, so many birds! We have visitors as well but not that close. I do not know their names but we also see big and small birds on our trees and the rice fields behind us. Isn’t it infinitely calming, to exist beside these birds and enjoy the same beautiful morning? We are very lucky.

The secret garden of fantasy and enchantment. I’m no architect or gardener, but I love your pictures, especially the curly rack for flower pots and the long benches. A garden cannot be a garden without the long wooden benches. LOL.

Thanks, it is lovely, really enjoying it. The curly rack is a custom wrought iron plant hanger l. My father found a photo of something similar on Facebook and showed it to me. We had one made for the back and it has been there for a year actually. I have been growing the plants that went up there in the nursery for some months now. I did not intend for them to go there but everything fit perfectly!

Thank you. Much of our tiny house, in and out, is custom. We envisioned every single piece of it. We were going after a particular feel – cozy, homey, safe. Our place is actually inspired by all the lovely homestays we were at while traveling and the wisdom of the good people we have met on the way.

It looks lovely! Things are starting to green up in our garden now but we’re still about 3 weeks away from the risk of last frost. I can’t wait to move my tomatoes and peppers outdoors. They’re outgrowing their little pots.

That is good news. So excited for your vegetables! Super fun to grow your own food. We have had plenty of tomatoes, too many to eat, so we made beautiful tomato jam and gave it to friends.

Yes, it tastes just like tomatoes. Since we make them ourselves we make a point of not adding too much sugar so we can taste the fruit. Goes really well in a grilled cheese!

I believe they’re all gone by May 28… the only progress so far is that I joined a Riyadh Plantita Group! They are awesome! They share buds and grafts… they sell plants too, hopefully not super expensive…

I am sure!! The trend has reached the Middle East, imagine that?!! Riyadh momshies are all excited because the govt is becoming more lenient re: gatherings so I bet they are planning on having garden tours yet again..
Re: MIL, I think it’s for real this time… what keeps her is that the ticket is to MNL and Saudi Airlines temp. stopped its services to PH I guess… so she’s rerouted her trip to JFK instead… shala si mamah! We’re now having sepanx but I know it’s for the best…
