A new day, a new talk show episode

Whenever we do blog nomination posts, we receive comments on how reading it is like watching a talk show. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Anyway, today’s episode is from our blog friend Michelle of Boomer Eco Crusader, who nominated us for the Sunshine Blogger Award. Thank you, Michelle!

It is always fun for us to do Q&As. We do not think they are bothersome at all. You can find our previous nomination here from Happy Panda. On to the questions, with no commercial breaks!

What is your favourite holiday and why?

Markus: Christmas is almost the only time of the year when everything slows down, which is always nice.

Micah: Christmas! It gets crazy in The Philippines. You hear Christmas songs on the first day of September. Also, we enjoy giving presents and doing social work. From selecting a thoughtful gift to wrapping it with book pages or brown paper – it is so much fun.

Chocolate or chips (crisps)?

Markus: Chocolate all the way. I can go for salty snacks, but only for a lack of sweet alternatives.

Micah: For my birthday this year, my sister gave me a white shirt that says maalat, matamis, maalat, matamis – the cycle continues.

It means salty, sweet, salty, sweet. You know, how we eat, and by we I mean me.

If you could have dinner with 3 people, living or dead, who would you choose?

Markus: Walter J. Lindner, Ben “Yahtzee” Crowshaw, and Steven Colbert.

Micah: I would choose Markus’ family: his father, mother, and brother.

What’s the best vacation you ever went on?

Markus: Different trips were great for different reasons, but in terms of personal growth it was definitely my backpacking year of 2017.

Micah: My muay thai year in 2017. I traveled and trained muay thai and learned and grew so much that year. It ended with a torn MCL but it was worth it.

Tell us about one thing you’d like to achieve before the end of 2020.

Markus: I’ve been steaming over an idea for an online course for the longest time now. Actually finishing it by the end of the year would be grand.

Micah: Finally schedule my German language certificate exam, for fucks sake.

Would you rather enjoy a concert or a night out at the theatre?

Markus: Few things compare with the visceral experience of a music festival, but as I’m nearing my 30s I see myself increasingly favoring the theater.

Micah: Definitely theater. Interestingly, I have never been to a concert.

What’s your favourite thing about blogging?

Markus: Exchanging perspectives with others.

Micah: Blog friends!

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

Markus: I have always harbored a strange fascination with Svalbard, so probably there.

Micah: It would be a joy to visit countries that have big spice markets. Any suggestions?

What are you looking forward to the most when COVID is behind us?

Markus + Micah: Moving around freely again.

Tell us about a cause you are passionate about.

Markus: Meeting each other as human beings.

Micah: I wrote a post about it here.

What’s the best book you’ve read this year?

Markus: I thoroughly enjoyed “So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed” by Jon Ronson.

Micah: I only read two books this year: Figuring by Maria Popova and The School of Life, so why not both?

Thank you for reading! We really appreciate your blog friendship. It means a lot to us, and thank you for the blog nominations that always give us something fun to do!

  1. I always love reading through your answers and find myself agreeing with one or the other (or both) almost everytime! I wish you the ebst of luck to accomplish your goals for the end of 2020! 😊

  2. I also like Christmas, Markus. The clients are also on leave so you actually get a break without having to check emails every 5 minutes. I have read a few marvelous books this year so I can’t pick one. These are the ones that bowled me over the most: The Great Divorce by CS Lewis, The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane and The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemmingway [the last one is so amazing]. Have a great weekend, you two.

  3. Congratulations. From what I’ve read so far you both deserve the awards. Great blog, you really reach out personally, it’s fun and inspiring to read. For sure it reads like a talk show, in a good way.

  4. This is such a sweet post! I would suggest India, for the big spice market haha but also because I would love to meet you guys. I have made so many blog friends over the years, the writing community here is amazing! ☺🖤

    1. Thank you. It would be lovely to meet you. Returning to India would be nice since we really did not get to do anything except our yoga teacher training course. I noticed that India has an enormous blogging community – must be fun!

      1. Oh where did you guys visit back then? Ah, I meant the writing community on WordPress. I actually don’t have that many Indian blogger friends as that of bloggers from all over the world! Actually love the fact that it interconnects us and the different cultural exposures through each other’s writing is really rewarding. 🤩

          1. Ah! I have been there. It’s a nice place but that’s sad, not getting to sight see. There’s a bridge called Lakshman Jhula haha. Pretty myths and stuff related to it. Hopefully when y’all visit again, you’ll get to explore more 🖤

              1. Yess! It’s a suspended bridge. Pretty cute. ☺
I know. Despite being an Indian, I still haven’t covered so many places. It’s huge and the culture is really diverse from one region to another.

                1. We remember having tea in this small cafe overlooking the bridge. It was fascinating to watch the people and animals. Yes, I heard that India can be so different from North to South. Which part are you from?

                    1. Yeah. They are the two of the most major cities in India. Bombay/Mumbai is in the state of Maharashtra, just beside the west coast. So technically it falls in the West of India. Kolkata/Calcutta is in the state of Bengal which is in the East of India. After Bengal the North eastern states follow. Kinda like two extreme sides of the country breadth-wise. Different regional languages, different climates, many cultural differences too. ☺

  6. Hehe, I am one of the people who said that I feel like I am listening to / watching a talk show whenever I read your Q&As…. I meant that as a compliment ❤

Micah, how's your German now? When do you plan to schedule it?

    1. Yes, I take it as a good thing. It is always fun. I know you also enjoy Q&As and I like reading you. I hope you are well and not too stressed now. Mein Deutsch ist okay. Ich versuche jeden Tag zu lernen. Vielleicht nehme ich meine Prüfung im Januar.

      1. Wow Micah. Congrats… that’s one hella translatable German!

Some German texts are just hard to google translate you know… most of the words do not make sense but what you said is perfect!

I am better now. EVERYTHING’S RESOLVED

        GOD IS GOOD!

        1. Oh, I am happy to hear. 4/4. Congratulations! Ha, thank you. I suppose this is because my German is basic. I also just say stuff and I never know if it is correct or not. But that is okay as long as I am not confessing to a murder.

    1. I just finished the one I was reading (well, technically listening as it was an audiobook) and thoroughly enjoyed it. He read his own audiobook, which always adds to the experience for me. Haven’t heard of Psychopath Test before, maybe I’ll get into that one next. Thanks for the recommendation!

  7. I always enjoy reading your answers to questions and learning more about the two of you! Although I have not traveled to Svalbard I have traveled to other parts of Norway and it was the best trip I have ever taken! Norway is a beautiful country and I hope to return one day 😀

  8. Thanks for playing along. It was great to get to know a little more about you.

Markus, I’m about twice your age and I still love concerts. Although, I have to admit I love theatre too!

Micah, sweet, salty, sweet, salty! I get it. I’m a bit that way myself. It depends on my mood.

      1. Oh that’s a really good question. I have seen so many fab shows. I think my all-time favourite would be “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” but “Beauty and the Beast” would be a close second.

        1. I dare to disagree. Or maybe I have yet to reach a meditative state that overrides hunger. Haha! I remember participating in a mindfulness exercise in one of our Bali retreats centered on our breakfast. It was fun and also delicious.
