Sunshine, daisies, butter mellow

Look at these native Ivatans! Rumor has it, they are very conservative.

Do you agree that blog friendships are equally important as physical friendships? We definitely think so. In fact, we cannot make any distinctions between the two. You matter to us and we really appreciate our connection!

This is also one reason why we enjoy blog nominations. Some bloggers are over them but it always makes us smile when you remember us.

Today’s edition is the Sunshine Blogger Award from Happy Panda – many thanks for the tag! We would like to share our answers to her questions below:

An irrational fear of yours?

Markus: Lingering, crippling, inexplicable anxiety.

Micah: I am uncertain how to answer this question. What counts as an irrational fear? I suppose I am afraid of scooping out frogs from the soil when I am not wearing my gardening gloves. Ew.

A book that you’d recommend to everyone?

Markus: Life 3.0 for AI-Afficenados, Deep Work for Eudaimonia-Enthusiasts and Why We Sleep for the Rest-Resistant.

Micah: The Missing Piece Meets The Big O – reading this children’s book led to the best relationship of my life. Has anyone read this, too? I would be very curious how you find it and would love to discuss with you!

PS. You can support us by ordering books through our affiliate link. Thank you very much!

Your choice of poison: coffee or tea?

Markus: Why not both? Coffee when I’m alone, the productivity is real. Tea when Micah and I are together and we can share a tea to appreciate the moment.

Micah: Tea. Chai in India is heavenly. I also love the basil tea from our garden with wild, raw honey. I do not drink coffee.

Would you prefer escaping to the mountains or to the beach?

Markus: Hard to beat the beach life. The ocean is also a great source of food in case of, I don’t know, a lockdown because of a global pandemic.

Micah: I am from the islands so my answer will always be the beach. Also, Markus and I met in Boracay, once voted best island in the world. Our tiny house is by the beach, too!

Weirdest dish that you’ve eaten?

Markus: Probably Burmese Tea Leaf salad. Great dish and really tasty, but I may be biased because it has peanuts.

Micah: Bagoong, a fermented fish or krill paste from The Philippines. The smell alone is an experience of a lifetime.

A country/place that you can’t wait to visit?

Markus: Right now I have this urge to show Micah around France. She will love the nature and the bakeries, and I always enjoy being there.

Micah: Vietnam – five missed flights and counting.

Rate in order of preference: money, power, fame.

Markus + Micah: Power, money fame.

If a genie granted you ONE wish, what would you wish for? (No, you can’t ask for more wishes!!)

Markus: Become force sensitive. Alternatively, a Dyson Swarm.

Micah: I wish for an effective, affordable, and accessible coronavirus vaccine for the world right now.

What TV show are you currently binging on?

Markus: We do not have a TV, but my current time-waster is watching The Viper play Age of Empires.

Micah: I watch YouTube videos, does that count? The last thing I watched is the excellent lockdown series of Esther Perel.

A dream of yours that came true?

Markus: Traveling Asia for three years. The vast majority of good things in my life right now are a direct consequence of setting out into the unknown in 2017.

Micah: I rarely use the word dream in this context. Often, I am just pleasantly surprised by things that life brings to me. Our tiny house, for example, is a small miracle, and our lifestyle as digital nomads pre-pandemic, the full expression of living our personal value of freedom.

A skill that you picked up over the last few months at home?

Markus: Statistics with R, French and chopping up a coconut with a machete.

Micah: Driving, making homemade yogurt and cheese, and forming perfect pancakes and crepes for breakfast.

  1. I love your answers! It’s always fun to read your q&a, I love getting to know you guys more…
And Micah, Bagoong, for real? I mean, you’ve traveled so much and yet still Bagoong? Haha 😀
I can imagine you and the frogs.. it must be so fun!

I am curious, how do you answer these questions? Together? or do you answer it separately?

    1. Glad you find them entertaining. We also enjoy answering them. Yes, bagoong is quite the experience, no? I mean, the smell! What is the weirdest food you have encountered? And no, the frogs are not fun. They scare me always. We answer these tags separately. We actually drafted two more over the weekend. And for fun, we should create a set of questions for you and your husband – it will be really interesting. Haha!

      1. Haha. On the contrary, I love bagoong sooooo much despite my multiple urticaria (22 allergens and 2 anaphylaxes)… meaning I should avoid it as it’s one of my strongest allergens but I like it so much that I take 2 strong antihistamines to counter all possible effects of my eating it.

On frogs, I find them disgusting too especially the giant ones but I grew up in Pinas (provinces) so sometimes, on mornings, when I am about to take a shower, I’d find our batya filled with water with our resident bullfrog on it. I used to freak out until I got used to it hahahahaha

That’s why I am trying to imagine you shriek when seeing them, especially the tiny ones that go in groups

Thanks for telling me… i am curious about you two… my husband and i answer these things orally and i transcribe haha… but he does answer… I love knowing about other couple’s dynamics… it makes me see whether we’re normal or not haha

        1. I am with you. I am also atopic but eat antihistamines just to keep going. Idk what I would do if there is a resident bullfrog in our bath. Happy to know you and your husband have fun with these q&a’s. Were you successful in inviting him for tea finally?

          1. Yes, he loves q&a, but you no one would think that he does because he would appear to be so quiet.

We have a nightcap almost daily, but it’s only I who drink tea at night – he takes bulletproof coffee due to keto. Are you aware of how Pakistanis do their tea? That’s how I like it best.

About the bullfrog, at first I thought I was to die of it but then I realized that I would by dying almost weekly so I just dealt with it and learned how to shoo it away. Perhaps you’d get used to it if you were in the same predicament? OR not????? Hahahaha!!! I totally understand you.

            1. What is his personality type? No, I will look it up. i have not been to Pakistan! And wow, he can still sleep at night and drink coffee? I do not want to be used to frogs. There were plenty in the summer because the garden is cooler, now everywhere is cooler so less frogs. Can still hear their crazy croaking everytime though.

              1. Haha. I am amused at how you cringe over them frogs haha. You are so cute!

Pakistani tea is kind of milky / minty… It’s a staple here. I haven’t been there either but my Pakistani friends from here taught me how. YES, both of us can sleep like babies despite the heavy dose of coffee. We’ve become immuned to caffeine.

My husband is INFP-T by the way 😀

                1. It sounds tasty. Please share how to make it! It could be a blog post. Haha! Wow, that should be a super power. I cannot even have late black tea. Aha, a fellow INFP who is probably as unique and different to the rest of us in the category. Haha.

                  1. Sure, I will, one of these days make a tutorial haha…. it’s so easy actually, LOL. I feel ashamed to even make a tutorial because of how easy it is. Nevertheless, I will 😀 😀 😀

      2. About frogs- I love adobo froglets by the way but it’s a staple in our province so I guess it’s not weird

What I found strange is the stinking tofu, because why does it need to stink. Can’t it be just like the regular tofu? 😅

  2. Congratulations on the nomination! I’ve never heard of it before, so I’m gonna have to go take a look at what’s it about later on.

I would pick the beach any day too, I live in Singapore, a small Asian city-state, and I love traveling to other Southeast Asian countries in the vicinity for a short beach getaway. Krabi has been my favorite destination in the region so far.

I’m glad that you got to travel around Asia for three years. With so many cultures in Asia, you must have seen and experienced a whole lot!

Thanks for sharing, have a great weekend!

    1. Thank you for visiting us, Ming. We are neighbors then! Have you been to The Philippines? We have nice beaches here, too. When were you last in Krabi? South East Asia is awesome. So many islands – even if you visit one country, there is so much left to explore. We have been living for months in Bali and have yet to turn the place upside down.

      1. I’ve never been to the Philippines, but I would love to visit Cebu Island one day. I was in Krabi last year May, and it was amazing. Ahhh I want to visit Bali too. I visited as a child, but I don’t have much memory of it.

        1. When the world opens again, I hope you see The Ph. Let us know and if we are around we can meet you! Are their beaches in Sg? Bali is magic. It is one of our favorite places in the world. This is the third country where we randomly bumped into each other a third time before becoming a couple, or at least talked about it.

  3. I absolutely love your blog, and the beautiful simplicity your life allows. Less is more, wouldn’t you agree? Most of all, I love the love you and your husband share. What a beautiful, precious gift this is!

Thank you for sharing all of these amazing answers. It was nice getting to know you two a little bit better. Ditto on no TV. Life is much better without it, if you ask my humble opinion. 😉 Sending blessings to you and yours. I pray y’all are well! ♥

  4. Yayay! Loved reading your answers!

I can’t wait to head to Vietnam too. We visited Cambodia 2 years back but unfortunately due to lack of time couldn’t make it to Vietnam!

I’m so jealous that you live by the seaside! That’s a life goal of mine – to retire to a tiny house by the sea. ☺️

I also learnt “Statistics with R” last year given the popularity of data analytics but didn’t do much with it after finishing the course. 🙈

So happy you answered all the questions! ☺️

    1. You should visit us sometime to have a small glimpse of your retirement life. Thank you for the nomination – it was fun to answer your questions. How much time did you spend in Cambodia and what did you see?

      1. Aww, thank you for the offer. Maybe once the world is done with this pandemic. 🙂

We were in Cambodia for 6 days – we split our time between Siem Reap & Phnom Penh. Our main focus were the Angkor temples and we spent 3 days exploring them. From sunrise at Angkor Wat to sunset at different temples.
We also visited the museums to understand about Cambodian genocide under Pol Pot. This part of the history was very dark and extremely disturbing especially when you realize how recent it was.

We also did a lot of pub hopping, drinking local beer & visiting night markets! 🙂

    1. Thank you. Welcome to our blog! We love coconuts and they are abundant here. There is nothing like getting your own coconut from our tree and enjoying it in the morning. Do you like coconuts, too?

        1. Coconuts are yum. Not sure I have had coconut chutney – need to be on the lookout for that! What we have is coconut jam. Have you had it before? I have a feeling it is a Filipino thing.

        1. Right now we are not traveling and are staying at our tiny house. We built the house in December last year and finished in March – great time to have a house actually. Before that, we were traveling full time as digital nomads, it was fun and rewarding, especially because it matched our values and the lifestyle really suited us. It allowed us to grow individually and together. We were both traveling individually before we were a couple. In fact, we ran randomly into each other in three different countries! Are you interested in trying out the digital nomad lifestyle?

          1. Wow, that’s so interesting! 😍 It’s so cute that you randomly met each other three times!! I think the digital nomad lifestyle is super interesting and exciting, maybe and on some days I really want to try it, while on others not so much 😊

            1. I encourage you to give it a try – you can always go home anytime, anyway. It is fun and the community is vibrant, especially here in South East Asia. Plenty of co-working spaces and cities or villages that offer a balanced lifestyle. Maybe we will meet on the road one day, too!
